About Us
Our Vision
It is our great hope that Vulnerable Mission would make a sound contribution to the broader efforts of transforming, ‘decolonising’ ministry models, church partnerships, development and research practices.
The AVM strives for a wider use of mission and development strategies that depend on locally available resources and local languages. Such strategies may mean slow progress. They may include accepting failure and even rejection through their high valuation of local people, their beliefs and capabilities. Paul’s assertion that “When I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Cor 12:10) reminds us that God’s priorities are often different from ours.
Vulnerable mission may be seen as part of the movement toward contextualisation of the gospel of Jesus. We would like to see more people take the risks involved in contextualisation and vulnerability. While vulnerable mission may not be the only biblical approach to mission it deserves much more attention than it has been getting.
